The 27th Annual DICE Awards took place on February 15th, shining a spotlight on the most dazzling achievements in video games for 2023. While several studios walked away with trophies, it was a night of mixed triumphs.
While Larian Studios' Baldur's Gate 3 bagged the coveted Game of the Year award, Insomniac Games' Marvel's Spider-Man 2 swung away with the most wins, capturing an impressive six accolades. The night also saw Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom claim the Adventure Game of the Year title, while Remedy's visually stunning Alan Wake 2 grabbed the award for Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction.
Hosted by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS), the DICE Awards are voted on by over 30,000 industry experts, celebrating the developers and studios pushing the boundaries of gaming excellence. This year, 23 diverse categories recognized exceptional achievements in areas like technology, art, animation, story, and audio.
Beyond game awards, the AIAS also paid tribute to music maestro Koji Kondo for his immense contributions to Nintendo's iconic music, spanning Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda for over 40 years. The legendary composer received the prestigious Academy Hall of Fame award presented by acclaimed film composer Brian Tyler.
"This year's DICE Awards showcase the extraordinary talent and imagination within the interactive entertainment industry," said Meggan Scavio, President of AIAS. "We honor the visionaries whose dedication, innovation, and passion have created unforgettable gaming experiences that set new standards."
Held at the Aria Las Vegas, the ceremony was hosted by the dynamic duo of Greg Miller (Kinda Funny) and Stella Chung (IGN), making it a memorable night for the global gaming community.
